Cebu Magellan’s Cross
It was one of the sightseeing places that most travelers was advised to go visit. Even some hotel pamphlet suggests this place.
Well, in the middle of the city of Cebu, It is surrounded by a park the size of, roughly , 1/2 a football field. Several vendors are selling many different kind of guitars and foods next to the cross.
Yes, it’s the cross left behind by the Spaniards centuries ago. The sign reads that the original cross is now encased in the wooden cross seen. It is said that this is to prevent people from chipping away the original cross which was thought to possess healing powers.
There are beautiful paintings on the ceiling of the hexagonal chapel, I have seen a few postcards of it.
Although the basilica right next to this is much more interesting, it’s still worth a visit – afterall, it’s a piece of Cebuano/Spanish history.
Some other blogs says that this cross was one of the tourist attraction in Cebu City, we suggest to go ahead and take a tour. But remember the place is not really that good. Just notice when you tour around you can see old chapels around it…
